Audience’s perception of illustration: Comparison between Online and traditional media

<p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong><br />of a graduation paper of a fourth-year student Liubavskia A.V. concerns &laquo;Audience&rsquo;s perception of illustration: Comparison between Online and traditional media&raquo;. The object of the study is illustration on paper and in digital formats. The subject of this research is audience&rsquo;s perception of illustration in online and traditional media. The aim of the study is detection of the ways of grabbing and keeping of audience&rsquo;s attention by means of the analysis of reading practice of online and paper versions. This aim involves the following tasks: performance of an eye-track experiment, which can help draw a parallel between consuming of information and remembering of data, conducting a survey, in which people of different ages give an appreciation of articles in online and traditional media, making an interview with professional artists and theorists of design. &nbsp;</p><p>The main research methods are system analysis, comparative analysis, questionnaire and in-depth interview. Theoretical basis for the research is color studies, new media studies and design studies. Empirical basis of this study is illustration of &laquo;Bolshoi gorod&raquo; magazine and also its articles on the site.</p><p>In conclusion the author gives specific advices to journalists, editors and publishers about illustration on a traditional and digital platform. In particular, A. Liubavskaia defines the main factors, which influence audience&rsquo;s perception, describes how different types of illustration attract and keep a reader&#39;s attention, explains how consumption of information is changing with a new platform and also predicts the future of illustration in print and on the Internet.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
