The wireless personal area networks IEEE standard 802.15.4 is the object of research of final qualifying work. Aim of this work is developing of client-server system for demonstrating operation of wireless network IEEE standard 802.15.4.

This study is relevant because wireless control and monitoring systems, which allow collecting data on the state of machinery, equipment, environment and controlling various mechanisms, are gaining popularity very fast. IEEE standard 802.15.4 is used to connect sensors and actuators into a single wireless network.

This paper provides an overview of the wireless personal area network standard IEEE 802.15.4. The article also includes the technical aspects of the standard and details of network operation and interaction of its participants.

It also describes application which was chosen for demonstrating operation of wireless network IEEE standard 802.15.4, difficulties encountered in the design, and methods for their solution.

The result of this work is to implementation the client and server applications that communicate using wireless networking standard IEEE 802.15.4. During the study it was revealed limitations of the standard IEEE 802.15.4 which affect application functionality implemented in this project, but non-critical for systems, the requirements of which are low power, low cost of installation and maintenance.

Next work may be focused on study of routing algorithms by using the ZigBee specification and several networks with more complex topologies such as a mesh topology.
