The Role of the EU in Solving the Global Problem of Shortage of Fresh Water

The beginning of the XXI century is marked by contamination of global problems, among which a special place is occupied by the environmental problems - global warming, ozone depletion, catastrophic pollution, loss of biodiversity and resource depletion. A fresh water shortage is one of the main problems among them. Before the inexhaustible resource - fresh clear water – becomes exhaustible. Today there is not enough water for drink, industrial production and irrigation in many regions of the world. Significant role in a solution of the problem belongs to the European Union. The European Union developed a large number of programs for preservation of water resources and actively seeks to improve quantitative and qualitative status of all water bodies. Though not all of them are realized successfully now, the positive tendency is observed.
