The analysis of factors influencing on projects priotization in organization IT project portfolio

<p>Nowadays in our volatile business environment information, information technologies and systems are becoming one of the most significant assets for an essential number of companies. Such companies spend their resources for business-processes management and optimization for IT assets performance advancement. Otherwise, beside of the persistent growth of consideration on IT project; only minor part of organizations gain and retain benefits from implementation of seeded IT projects.</p><p>In this paper there was described following scientific issue:</p><p>The possibility of development of structured and systemized IT project evaluation model by analysis of factors concerned with IT projects prioritization in project portfolio.</p><p>The main goal of this thesis is the practical recommendations development associated with IT project prioritization in IT project portfolio.</p><p>For the achieving the goal mentioned above there were resolved a set of various tasks:</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Scientific studies and investigations related to IT project analysis were examined;</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Methodologies for IT project management and projects prioritization approaches were distinguished;</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The number of factors which have an influence on IT project prioritization process were revealed and systematized;</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On the base of literature review and conducted survey of Russian companies&rsquo; CIO posed hypothesis was verified;</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The model of IT project prioritization process was developed;</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The foregoing model was examined;</p><p style="margin-left:36.0pt;">&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The recommendations concerned with IT project prioritization process were elaborated.</p><p>As a result, in this dissertation there were obtained several core outcomes:</p><p>In the first chapter methodologies, factors and elements of IT project analysis were reviewed. Also, the most considerable methods and tools of project portfolio development were identified. Moreover, on base of those theoretical materials the research study was carried out. Also, in this chapter criteria for the future hypothesis verification were determined.</p><p>In the second part of this thesis the survey of Russian IT Executives were conducted. During the accompanying data analysis and data mining there were detected several required factors used during IT projects prioritization. On the one hand, they are usually declared as important for those business-processes. On the other hand, they are commonly ignored by decision makers.</p><p>For the scientific issue resolving there was created a model of recommendations. Such kind of model should facilitate process of seeding factors for subsequent IT projects prioritization depending on major organization&rsquo;s KPI.</p><p>Finally, in the last chapter mentioned model were tested with the usage of data related to practical IT project portfolio. In the course of identity analysis between original and estimated projects prioritization there were detected the directions for following modifications of the model. As a result, after the model improvement by additional market sector specific factors it was repeatedly employed and examined.</p><p>Taking everything into consideration, developed model of practical recommendations for IT project prioritization could take into account both widespread IT project evaluation factors and factors specified by organization&rsquo;s sector, their business features and major KPI.</p>
