Strategic transformations management through projects and programs

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36px; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">Management of strategic changes is undoubtedly one of the most important management problems these days. Lack of a complete framework that describes how and with what tools strategic changes should be accomplished is a crucial challenge. Among the objectives of the present work are:</p><ul><li style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">In the theoretical part &ndash; review of existing practical and theoretical models of strategic change management, revealing their advantages and drawbacks and development of the author&rsquo;s model for strategic change management;</li><li style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">In the practical part &ndash; finding key success factors of a transformational IT-project and program; analysis of project and program design with respect to change implementation.</li></ul><p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36px; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">A transformational IT project in a European telecommunication provider is selected as an object of the present research. Case study and questionnaire are used to comprehensively inspect the project. Among the areas covered in the case study are: change and benefit management in the project, project delivery problems and communications management, management of stakeholders and risks.</p><p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36px; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">The following tasks have been accomplished as a result of the conducted research:&nbsp;</p><ul><li style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">A new theoretical model of strategic change management is developed. There are four key factors in the model: management of chains of projects and programs, communications and zones of responsibility, management of stakeholder expectations and risk management.</li><li style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">High-level risk classification is suggested for transformational IT projects and programs.</li><li style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">Critical success factors of a transformational IT project are revealed through the questionnaire.</li><li style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 14px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';">Factors affecting the choice of a project design are revealed.</li></ul>
