Models of personnel career in international companies of hospitality industry

<p><strong><em>Keywords:</em></strong> career, career development, factors of career development, models of career.</p><p>260 million people work in hospitality industry worldwide. This is 8,9% of all the workplaces in the world (WTTC, 2012). Russian sector of hospitality and tourism has provided 3935 workplaces during 2013 year, which means about 5,5 % from all workplaces in the labor market. Hotel business is&nbsp; an attractive and rapidly growing sector of economy, which can provide a lot of workplaces (Baum, 1997). There is a specific particularity in this economy sector that follows internal tendencies (in hospitality industry) and external circumstances of the labor market in spite of high level potential of this sector of economy.</p><p>Career of an employee is characterized as temporary. In this way Deery (2002) points out that hospitality sector has a high rate of staff turnover.</p><p>That is why it is necessary to learn the factors of career development. It is necessary to understand how personnel develops, which qualities and competencies are important for that.</p><p>The aim of the research was to to reveal factors that influence the career development of Russian personnel in international companies of hospitality industry and building their career&#39;s models (career&#39;s paths).</p><p>There were two stages of our work. The first one was pilot and we used qualitative research methods: document analysis and deep interview. As a result we could clarify theoretical research model and reveal factors of personnel&#39;s career development. After that we could held the second step of our research. There were used quantitative research methods: survey and the result&#39;s analysis in SPSS STATISTICS. As a result of the second quantitative step of our research we could reveal significant factors of career development. The respondents of our research were chairs of departments, managers and supervisors. Their work experience in hospitality industry was at least 3 years.</p><p>The result of master&#39;s diploma consists of developed career paths of employees from different hotel&#39;s departments with necessary qualities and competencies. The practical significance of the research includes recommendations for human resource department of the hotel and for hotel&#39;s personnel.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
