<p>Tokar Natalia</p><p><strong>Russian specialist&#39;s competencies necessary for successful work in cross-cultural environment</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the changing environment it becomes difficult to make professional decisions. The amount of cross-boundary interactions is growing. Russian specialists must prepare themselves for working together with foreign colleagues. It can be team-work, conferences, business interactions. There is no evidence about cross-cultural competencies needed for successful work with other cultures representatives. That is why it is important to make research in the area of competencies necessary for successful work in cross-cultural environment. Though there is research in cross-cultural competencies in different parts of the world, it is a new subject in Russia.</p><p>This research was held in order to fill in this gap in knowledge. The main aim of this paper was to find out which competencies are necessary for the Russian specialists who work or would like to work abroad, in cross-cultural environment.</p><p>Several steps were undertaken to cope with the mentioned task. There was a literature review and critical analysis of the key theories in this field. After that a theoretical model was created. The research was based on it.</p><p>The respondents were Russian specialists. They all had experience in working abroad with foreign colleagues, representing different European cultures.</p><p>Qualitative methods were used to get the data and to make the analysis. Altogether there were held 11 half-structured interviews. The analysis of transcripts included such method as content-analysis. The first result of the analysis is the table with 13 key competencies necessary for successful work in cross-cultural environment. They are supported by the quotations from 11 interviews.</p><p>The last part of the article consists empirical evidence on 13 key competencies. Besides, there is data proving success of respondents &ndash; Russian specialists working or having experience of working abroad. There are also several recommendations in the last chapter of the paper. They include practical advice for those who work or ant to work abroad, for companies having business in different parts of the world, career consultants and business-trainers. The results of the paper can be useful for HR-professionals, especially who work in Learning and Development departments.</p>
