The present research is devoted to the evaluation of family image and family values, transmitted to the audience in modern Russian mass movies. The general purpose of this project is to propose a methodology for family values measuring in audiovisual materials and to reveal what family values and family image are represented by modern Russian cinema on the family topic over the past three years. Three types of objectives are intended to attain due to this study. First of all, there is an urgent need to examine the existing approaches to the family institution changes, after that it is essential to scrutinize the problem of family values conceptualization and family values evaluation in audiovisual products, and also to look in detail at the approaches to the role of audiovisual materials in the demonstration of family values. The second set of goals is devoted to the methodology. It is anticipated to consider the quantitative and the qualitative approaches to the analysis of audiovisual materials and on the basis of these approaches to elaborate and verify a methodology for measuring family image and family values in the Russian mass films on the family topic. At last it is intended to disclose what family image and family values are constructed in mass Russian movies and how they are transmitted by these films. The empirical study is based on the examined qualitative and quantitative approaches. The elaborated categories and criteria on the basis of audio and visual indicators are used to analyze family image and family values, represented in movies on the family topic.

The results of the efforts contribute to the methodological aspect of the family values analysis in audiovisual materials. The study proposes a technique for measuring family image and family values in audiovisual products and it also represents the results of the selected movies analysis. Moreover the findings generalize movies according to family images and family values, represented there. The main hypothesis, that the family image and the family values in modern Russian movies correspond with the current state of the family institution in Russia, is partially supported. This research will serve as a starting point for further analysis of the mass films on family topic.
