Features of Spatial and Socio-economic Development of Saint-Petersburg Agglomeration

<p align="center">ABSTRACT.</p><p>Research is devoted to a subject of spatial and socio-economic development of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area. Considering a role of the largest city metropolitan areas in economy of Russia and increase of its competitiveness, the subject of research is the extremely actual. The purpose of research is check of dependence of socio-economic development of municipalities of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area from remoteness from the center of metropolitan area. The hypothesis that spatial and social and economic development of areas depends on remoteness from the agglomeration center is made in research</p><p>For achievement of a research purpose the following tasks are carried out in research:</p><p>&bull; To study the literature concerning metropolitan areas</p><p>&bull; Delimitation of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area and allocation of the municipalities entering metropolitan area</p><p>&bull; To collect statistical data on socio-economic indexes of municipalities</p><p>&bull; To create of regression and correlation for interrelation check between spatial position of municipality and socio-economic indexes</p><p>Research consists of the introduction, three heads, the conclusion and the list of references. In chapter 1 of research theoretical information on metropolitan areas is given. The analysis of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area, allocation of its features and the problems, which interfere its development, is provided in chapter 2. In a chapter 3 methods and the data which are used in research are described, the econometric analysis of dependence between transport availability of municipality (from the center of St. Petersburg), security of this municipality with social and physical infrastructure (on 1000 inhabitants and per unit area) and the municipality status is carried out.</p><p>In research borders of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area are defined (based on criterion of 90-minute availability from the center) the municipalities which are belong to agglomeration are allocated and necessary statistical information for performance of calculations is collected.</p><p>As a result of carrying out the econometric analysis the hypothesis wasn&#39;t confirmed. On the basis of it, conclusions and recommendations to further researches are formulated in this research.</p>
