The primary goal of the research paper is to define the targets, strategies and results of deliberate counteraction aimed to intellectual or creative activity of the subject. Pursuing this purpose to make a broad investigation of the planned oppugnancy firstly there will be reviewed current theories of this phenomenon which are already developed in psychology. The next stage of research will be carrying out an experiment which will show appearance of deliberate counterwork in the special conditioned situation. The results delivered by an experimental part will provide a basis for making future analysis and interpretation.

Problem statement

The principal objective of this research is to investigate the phenomenon of intentional goal-directed counterwork to the intellectual or creative activity of subject, to find out and analyze possible targets, utilized strategies and obtained results of this process.

Delimitations of the study

Due to the sample of my research will be students of Higher School of Economics aged from 17 to 24 years the range of goals and strategies of counterworking observed using experimental method will not be able to be analyzed comparing with the strategies and targets of children or middle-aged people located within another social group.

Professional significance of the study

The results of this investigation can be applied not only within the confines of cognitive and general psychologies, but also this research can be considered as beneficial in management, sport industry, economy and other diverse branches, where the phenomenon of counteraction can occur.

Definitions of key terms

In this research there will be used the term counterwork (or counteraction) which means a complex of actions, operations and influences committed advisedly by one subject and directed to the intellectual or creative performance of the another subject with the aim to intervene in the process.

To draw the conclusion of this research paper there should be mentioned current expectations of the results. In the first instance, we reckon to carry out an

experiment successfully and the prospective results will be reliable for showing up arising people’s targets and strategies used during the time of experiment. In this way we will be able to observe subjects’ behavior in the special situation of counterwork in a game. As a result of analyzing data delivered by the experiment we will compare various strategies and goals in different groups of subjects, interpret the fundamental causes of obtained distinctions and attempt to determine the main factors influenced on it.

The implementation of these targets will make possible the verification of the hypothesis and lead to its confirmation or refutation. In the position of first hypothesis we assume that subjects within a group of players where they three know each other closely or even are good friends will perform more oppugnant actions than subjects within a group of players where people were not acquainted with each other before experiment. We consider that it can happen because people in a situation of communication and interaction with unknown person have a tendency to behave according to the compliance of social desirability. This phenomenon may cause the increasing desire of subject to make a favorable contact with strangers and diminish the predominance of motivation for winning it the game as the main goal.
