In this paper, based on two theoretical and methodological approaches of poverty definition (absolute and relative), analyzes the factors affecting falling into poverty, as well as a study structure of the poor group of modern Russia. Using RLMS-HSE database were studied dynamics and movement vectors of the poor during 2005-2015, taking into account Russian specifics. In this paper, we investigate the features of the social dynamics of the representatives of the poor. The poor are considered as a large social group, which has its own traditions, customs, rules of conduct and a well-defined structure, which is formed due to the low volatility of its composition. Much attention is paid to the problem of the chronically poor group, whose members have the greatest deprivation and lowest income over a long period of time. It is assumed that one of the major causes of poverty in the Russia is problem of labor market because of the low level of wages in a large proportion of workers.
