The Impact of Regional Characteristics on the Choice of a Study Program by Prospective Students

This research is devoted to the study how the different factors can influence the professional way by choosing a study program by prospective students. The general purpose will be the attempt to evaluate by which factors our pupils make the decision and does the correlation with regional specifics exist. For estimating the relationship between regional characteristics (reputation of region for current study program and regional employment by sectors) and the choice of applicants the author applies multinomial logit model based on the data from the Project “Monitoring of education markets and organizations”. Thanks to the previous researches we know about the significant effects of personal, family and school characteristics, so they are included as controls values. Regarding to the results prospective student appreciate the real situation at the labor market and the educational system. As for our regional features are significant this paper shows the necessity of considering the white spots in the local educational policies by more appropriate tools.
