The purpose of this paper is to find how the signal of foreign ownership in a bank name affects depositor discipline in the Russian market. The quarterly data on 56 banks with a 100% foreign share is taken. The studied period includes years from 2007 to 2015. Depositor discipline is an effect when well-capitalized banks attract more deposits (quantitative discipline) and pay lower deposit rates (qualitative discipline). The results have shown that the signal of foreign ownership weakens the quantitative discipline. However, an opposing effect is present. The qualitative discipline only takes place for the banks with a signal of foreign ownership in their name. During the crisis period the effects describes above don’t change.
