The Influence of R&D Investments on Firm's Effectiveness: Developing and Developed Market Review
Economics
(Bachelor’s programme)

2016
This Bachelor thesis adds empirical evidence to the previous studies on the effectiveness of R&D investments combined with other firm-specific factors in a simultaneous equation framework. For this purpose was used a newly constructed panel dataset of 967 publicly traded firms with the highest R&D expenditures from both developing and developed countries for the 2010–2014 period.

Estimation results derived from fixed effects regression model confirm the mutual positive correlation between R&D intensity and firm's efficiency. Moreover, controlling for Capex intensity and the level of employees, more capital-intensive firms and with more employees involved are likely to be more R&D efficient. However, we find that firms from developing and developed market have no significant differences in the efficiency generating by R&D. Industry characteristics appear to be insignificant in terms of influencing on R&D efficiency as well. This suggests that firms should develop their efficiency-improving strategies, taking into account the absence of country and industry-specific constraints.
