It is common nowadays that gas and oil industry is going through drastic changes. New technologies of exploration, extraction of gas along with new transportation possibilities pose a challenge to traditional gas exporters like Russia. Because of these facts topic of the research is a topical issue and combine both interests of russian economy and European Union. Germany is traditional russian partner in energy sector, consuming one quarter of all russian gas, exported to Europe. In my research i studied european gas market, new trends in gas industry and in gas export of Russia in order to make an assumption, if cooperation in gas pipeline projects brings benefit to Russia and Germany. Research was divided in three parts. 1. Research of new trends in gas industry 2. Development of european and german gas markets 3. Prospects of joint projects in gas transportation sector. After commiting all neccessary analytical procedures a conclusion was made. Project Nord stream -2 is tightly bound to national interests of Russia and Germany. Due to current trends at the european market it is seen rational to lower projected capacity of the pipeline because of new competitors and unstable gas prices.
