Relevance of the work associated with the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018, which will be held in Russia. Preparation for this sporting event is already in process and thus requires planning for further infrastructure usage after the competition. In this context, it is important to exploit the experience of other developing countries such as Brazil and South Africa (Russia's BRICS partners), that have already carried out international sport events. Adaptation of their experience can help to avoid mistakes in the preparation process. Taking into account current economic situation in the country it is crucial to avoid ungrounded spendings on the World Cup 2018 and thus achieve the most efficient usage of infrastructure. Also, the competition will serve as a source of increasing popularity of Russia as a tourist destination. In this case we are talking about both international and domestic tourism. Moreover, FIFA claims that the World Cup should become a catalyst for the football development in the organising country. In this regard, during the preparation for the World Cup 2018 Russia has to adapt foreign experience of building and modernising country's football system.
