Cultural Diplomacy of the Republic of Korea in the Late of XX - Early XXI Centuries in Europe

This paper shows why it is important to study the cultural activity of the Republic of Korea and explains why cultural diplomacy holds a specific place in Korean foreign policy. The paper has a major purpose to reveal the main goals of the Republic of Korea’s cultural diplomacy in Europe. Korean approach to the implementations of cultural policy abroad and main socio-economic and political conditions of cultural diplomacy have been investigated. Also the main overseas cultural organizations of Korea and the main activities of them in Europe have been determined. The main strategies and aims of cultural diplomacy of Korea in Europe have been analyzed on the basis of the neo-liberal globalization theory. Accordingly it has been hypothesized, that Korean cultural diplomacy in Europe has the main goal to maintain and develop the economic ties with the region, because of modern globalization processes. Also there is an assumption that Korean cultural diplomacy strategies towards Europe stays put even after changes in Korean Government’s policy, because economic priorities between two parts are prevail over political ones.
