Narrative Innovations in Television Drama 2011-2015: Superhero Genre

This research is focused on television drama produced in the USA between 2011 and 2015, by different television institutions, including recently emerged ‘video on demand’ platforms, such as Netflix, focusing on its narrative features, strategies and strutcture on the case of superhero genre. The problem of the research draws from Trisha Dunleavy’s theory that states that narrative innovations in television drama are linked to its institutional context. The research is focused on narrative analysis and operates with categories as story, discourse and structure. The broader aim of the research is to determine, whether ‘video on demand’ platforms are the new source of innovation in television drama.
