Computer and Internet Use in Older Adults: Socio-Economic Determinants and the Relationship with Life Satisfaction

In this paper we investigated the relationship between life satisfaction among seniors and their use of ICT. The analysis is based on data from the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring of health of the population (RLMS), Higher School of Economics for the period 2005-2015. And Federal State Statistics Service data on the use of information technology, public information and telecommunication networks of the older generation for the 2011- 2014 years. In this paper the behavior senior citizens using ICT was investigated, key market patterns was identified. Spend econometric analysis, I identified the factors that influence the probability of the use of computer by retired. The most important determinants were recognized as gender, age, access to the Internet, the presence of relatives in the family and work. We also consider the impact of Internet usage on life satisfaction. I revealed a positive correlation, for older women and there is almost no relationship to men. Experience in public policy in this sphere is also analyzed in Russia and abroad, and then I defined priority areas for development.
