China and the Russian Federation view each other as a strategic partner, and are taking measures to promote bilateral relations and regional cooperation in recent years. As one of the most important dimensions in the strategic relationship, the trade relation has a significant influence in the development of their partnership. However, it has been argued for a long time that the trade scale between these two countries is not in line with their political relations. The thesis aims to evaluate the situation of Sino-Russian trade, to verify if the economic relations between them are as weak as the results provided by some of the previous researches, to assess whether there is still potential for the further development, and to provide policy suggestions afterwards. The research combines both qualitative and quantitative techniques, where relevant trade theories are introduced, trade indicators are calculated, gravity models are constructed, and SWOT analysis is adopted to carry out a comprehensive study on the Sino-Russian bilateral economic relations.
