Russia has the world's largest territory and a high economic potential, therefore it is significantly involved in international passenger traffic. In order to work effectively on the international market Russian airlines have to be competitive and improve the international image and recognition of their brands. At the same time, participating in international air traffic implies a lot of prerequisite commitments. The hypothesis of the study was that the mechanisms of state regulation and participation in international organizations, alliances and agreements can significantly improve the position of Russian air carriers on the international market. Based on extensive research of international passenger traffic market and international and domestic regulations, conducted by the author, the hypothesis was confirmed. Additionally, the study identified regulation mechanisms crucial to strengthening the role of Russian air carriers on international market, considering the current crisis.
