Corporate Governance in Microfinance Institutions

This thesis analyzes the influence of corporate governance on the efficiency of microfinance institutions (MFI). We explore different financial as well as non-financial variables which may have an impact on the efficiency of management and performance of MFIs. We pay particular attention to the role of women on one of the executive positions in corporate efficiency. We investigated how women among loan officers influence the risks and performance of the MFIs. We also checked how chosen variables are connected with the increase in the amount of women among borrowers. We analyzed 200 MFIs from 21 countries and conducted a research in order to investigate the influence of chosen variables on the risks, financial and social performance in the MFIs in the periof of 2010-2014.Our results do not reveal convincing evidence that women impact the financial and social performance of MFIs only through their influence on the undertaken risks. We believe that there may be some other pecularities connected with women which have an impact on the financial and social performance of MFIs.
