The idea of leadership is а concept of US global domination through military, economic, technological, political and ideological superiority over other states. American leadership is a central theme in the speeches of American presidents. The present work is devoted to analysis of the inaugural speeches and the annual messages "State of the Union", which allows to trace the dynamics of American presidents perceptions of US global leadership in the years 1981-2008. I consider the specific rhetoric of presidents in line with the concept of globalization and neo-conservatism. Central place in the analysis of presidential rhetoric take terminology, argumentation and symbols that are used in speeches.
