Antarctica in the International Relationships: from the Cold War to the Present Day

Nowerdays, Antarctica is a unique example of a place, as free as possible from political, economic and military struggles. This phenomenon is even more interesting, because the background of this extraordinary political system roots in the very beginning of the Cold War. The current project is intended to explore sources and circumstances, under which such system could be invented and implemented. This survey should provide new useful insights on how it is possible (at least on a theoretical level) to establish the functional and beneficial for all system of international cooperation. The study will be guided by the following questions: What were the historical backgrounds of the establishment of the Antarctic Treaty System? What were the milestones of the project?
