The Rites of Passage in TV Programs About Fashion, Beauty and Style

The aim of this study was to identify structural features of programs about fashion, beauty and style, which are based on the archetype of initiation (rite of passage). In the work following tasks were set: 1. To characterize the nature of rituals of transition, their structure, functions and types; 2. To show how the theory of rituals of transition may be applicable for the study of television shows; 3. To describe the characteristics of programs about fashion, beauty and style using the motif of the transformation of the hero; 4. To reveal the features of realization of the drama of the ritual of transition in the program "Remove it immediately", "Fashion verdict", "Reset", "let's get dressed"; 5. To identify whether it was for the heroines part in the television show "rite of passage" that led to the change of status and significant life change. As a result of work we have identified structural features of programs about fashion, beauty and style, which are based on the ritual of transition. These structures are "archetypal" in nature and rooted in the collective unconscious. Resonating with them, the drama of the TV show becomes more dramatic, and the shows become mediatisierung the ritual of finding the "right" cultural identity, particularly for women. Also in the study we confirmed the set before working hypotheses: the basis of the dramaturgy of the analyzed programs about fashion, beauty and style really is the archetypal structure of the ritual of transition; in the female the "show transformation", as mediatisierung the rituals of transition, forming a "proper" female identity and a style of consumption.
