Political Strategies of Regional Authorities in Relation to the System Opposition in Modern Russia
The present research is an attempt at studying the interaction between regional elite and opposition. Two main strategies of regional authorities – cooptation and neutralization of opposition – were identified and considered on the example of the distribution of leadership positions among main parties in Regional parliaments. Comparable and case study methods were used in this research in order to define differences in choices made by regional authorities. Main factors affecting the choice of regional authorities between cooptation and neutralization in relation to systemic opposition in Russia were determined.
