European Integration as a Factor of National Separatism in Europe

It is well known that separatist movements in Europe are on the run. For the last two years Europe had seen two referendums of independence (Scotland and Catalonia) and one plebiscite (Veneto). With every passing electoral cycle the support of regional parties grows. But at the same time rises the degree of European integration and despite the growing separatism inside the national states these movements mostly have nothing to do with Euroscepticism. Scottish national party proclaiming the will for construction of independent state in 2014 crucially noticed that their future lies inside United Europe. When Catalonian government declared the secession program in 2015 they also stated that Catalonia is going to be economically advanced and politically influential European Union member. Such situation is not obvious and begs questions. Is there any dependency between the process of European integration (economic and political) and dramatic acceleration of regional separatism inside national states? Current project will explore this dependency by building game-theoretical model, thus explaining what and how affects the choice of region on the problem of separation.
