Islamic State: a Conceptual Framework and Current Practice

This thesis contains the key features in the understanding of the concept of the Islamic statehood. The theme of the Islamic state has always been of interest for the whole world. At different times, the content of the concept of statehood has had different meanings, because the main sources of Islamic law, the Qur'an and Sunnah, did not explain the form of an Islamic state. The Qur'an and Sunnah set the foundations of statehood, the state indicate the status of Islam and explains the ethical side of the construction of an Islamic state. This work describes and references to the state in the Qur’an, Sunnah and the works of Islamic scholars. Additionally, this work discloses specific types of Islamic government and the Islamic state concept. Also this thesis includes features of the state system of modern Muslim countries and the level of interpretation of Islamic teachings in them. Thus, the work answers the question about the nature of the Islamic state and the role of interpretation of Islam basis in this region. Lastly, this thesis utilizes study materials from Russian and foreign authors, and the constitutions of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syria.
