Despite the variety of research in the field of project management, today there is an acute shortage of scientific papers dedicated to the study of resource planning practice. The aim of this work is to develop recommendations for resource management in projects taking into account their specifics and peculiarities of certain methods and tools. To achieve this goal, the analysis of existing sources was conducted in Part 1 and online survey of project managers without the geographical and industry boundaries was carried out in Part 2. The results revealed significant differences in the scheduling of resources between industries with predominantly intellectual work and industries with a predominance of planning physical labour and material resources. In this regard, general guidelines were developed for applying methods of resource estimate and alignment of resources as well as the functionality of information systems. The comprehensive approach proposed in this paper is able to provide a more thorough process of resource planning in projects, which aims to have a positive impact on the project success as a whole.
