Resistance to the Sustainability Projects: the Case of Major Russian Oil and Gas Company

"Resistance to the Sustainability Projects: The Case of Major Russian Oil and Gas Company" The aim of this research is to scrutiny specifics of the Russian resistance on sustainable development projects. Thus, for the detection and study of socio-psychological and organizational determinants of resistance to sustainable development in the oil and gas industry (under the resistance of SD projects in the framework of this study is understood the resistance of staff in different levels of management) were used, both quantitative and qualitative methods of study. In depth semi-structured interview with six experts participated were: three – top managers and three - department heads. The interview was divided into two parts: the first - general questions where respondents expressed their opinion about the resistance to sustainable development projects in the Russian oil and gas industry; second part - specific questions that were formulated on the basis of the scope of the professional activities of each expert, in order to obtain information about the resistance within the specific areas of activity in major oil and gas companies. In the survey took part 160 respondents: 80 of which were non-working students, the other 80 - professional employees of large organizations (including oil and gas companies). In quantitative research the following methods were used: "Method of K.A. Bagrationi", "method of semantic differential of Time", "index of time perspective extend", the modified questionnaire, which includes: "the scale of tolerance to uncertainty", "self-esteem scale innovative qualities of the person" and "risk-taking scale" developed by O.E. Tishchenko, K.A. Bagrationi and S.A. Lattice. Based on research results, were made recommendations on the justification and support of sustainable development projects for the major Russian oil and gas company.
