Tendencies of Development of Mass Media Language (Based on the Materials of Nizhny Novgorod Youth Media)

This work is about the detection of the trends in the development of the youth mass media language in Nizhny Novgorod influenced by the language of young people in the period from 1989 until 2015. In the theoretical part of the work we determine the term "mass media language", note its impact on youth communication, name different interpretations of the term "language of young generation", interpret its status in the system of urban speech and its linguistic specificity and, also, survey the youth press. In the practical part, we present a brief history of the media we research – the newspapers "Leninskaya smena" and "Seledka", make an analysis of thematic content, and compare topics of these newspapers and lexical structure of Nizhny Novgorod mass media in order to identify certain trends in the language of this type of media. Material for analysis was obtained by collecting archival materials and their computer processing. As the result of the research, a number of trends in the language of youth mass media was identified: the change of topics under the influence of socio-political situation, the active usage of borrowings and jargonisms, the decline in popularity of the youth published press in the 2010s compared to the 1990s. The work consists of the main part - 52 pages, including 2 illustrations, 7 graphs and 1 table, bibliography of 44 titles and 3 applications.
