The theme of Happy Love to Lesbia in Catullus' Lyrics: Interpretation of Modern Russian Translators

Catullus, or an "inventor of feelings", was the first Roman poet, who made the step in speaking about new type of love, consisted of physical and mental aspects. At that moment Catullus did not have a comprehensive vocabulary for the description of an emotional feeling, that is why he addressed to the majority number of literary sources for the creation of the individual and complete construct. Catullus' lyrics, passed through the centuries, is actual now, which fact is confirmed by modern Russian translations. The present research represents the commentary and analysis of three contemporary works by M. Amelin, O. Slawjanka and R. Torpusman, who have a goal to demonstrate the "new" view on Catullus' love lyrics. This investigation focuses on the vocabulary of "love", its transformation and interpretation. Moreover, on the basis of the selective words we revealed the peculiar properties of working methods, individuality of translators' interpretations and theoretical questions of translation studies. The result of the research is the presentation of basic methodology technics of each modern translator, their concepts formulation and illustration of the variety of views on the unique and original "love" conception.
