Millions of people in modern society find themselves in a midlife crisis. Personality development during maturity period, to which this age period applies, is one of the most complex and still insufficiently studied areas. There are a number of approaches to understanding crisis as a phenomenon of human life and midlife crisis. There exists a lack of understanding of existential grounds of a midlife crisis in their representation in the subjective experience of individuals. In addition, within the framework of the 3rd Viennese school of existential analysis lead by A. Laengle this topic is understudied. This paper aims to reveal existential foundations of midlife crisis through an appeal to individual experiences of people who find themselves in the crisis. The main method of research includes semi-structured interviews followed by the phenomenological analysis operationalised by A. Giorgi (Giorgi, 2009).The results of the study reveal that experiences of midlife crisis are related to the simultaneous imbalance in 4 constitutive areas of existence. Keywords: midlife crisis, existential grounds, existential analysis of A. Laengle, phenomenological analysis.
