In Moscow State University library in the section of rare books there is the manuscript “Požarskij and Minin, or the liberation of Moscow” by G. Arresto (The German title named „Poscharsky und Minin oder: Die Befreiung Moskaus“ Original Schauspiel in 5 Aufzügen) (1807). This still untranslated drama is devoted to the Emperor Alexander I and is considered to be a present for him. The subject of the Moscow’s liberation in the field of literature of the beginning of the 19th century and the significance of the drama by Arresto among texts on the similar theme are examined in this study.
