For more than five hundred years of commenting and interpreting of Catullus` poems in various ways paradoxically today the considerable part of the Catullus` corpus, namely abusive lyrics, stays unexplored. This project will examine the peculiarity of poet`s abusive verses addressed to friends with special attention to obscene lexemes and scrutinizes also their reflection in Fet`s and Shervinsky's Russian translations in the conditions of strict censorship. This research will be based not only on the qualitative, but also on the quantative methods that minimizes a subjective factor.
