Sophie de Ségur, a French classic of children literature, became extremely popular in the end of the XIXth century and is still widely read in France. Nevertheless, Russian studies of children literature have not focused yet on her creative process, despite the fact that Russia is the author’s native country. The following study will examine French and Russian reception of countess de Ségur’s texts and will also provide the analysis of the novels “The Model Little Girls” (1857), “Sophie’s Misfortunes” (1858), and “The Holidays” (1859).
