The work is dedicated to the problem of water surface visualization.

The paper deals with existing approaches to solving the problem of generating water surface. Spectral approach is described in detail, which allows to generate a model of the surface in real time. The paper contains a description of the method of visualization choppy waves, allowing to increase the realism obtained by using the spectral approach model. The description of the fast Fourier transform algorithm applied to the spectral approach to use is presented.

As a result of this work the water surface visualization program was developed using a spectral approach in real time. The description of OpenGL Compute Shaders technology that allowed to parallelize fast Fourier transform algorithm on the GPU, thus achieving increased productivity, is also presented.

The paper contains 41 pages, 3 chapters, 1 diagram, 18 illustrations, 2 tables, 25 bibliography items, 4 appendices.

Keywords: visualization of the water surface, the spectral approach of generating water surface, fast Fourier transform algorithm, OpenGL Compute Shaders.

Student Theses at HSE must be completed in accordance with the University Rules and regulations specified by each educational programme.

Summaries of all theses must be published and made freely available on the HSE website.

The full text of a thesis can be published in open access on the HSE website only if the authoring student (copyright holder) agrees, or, if the thesis was written by a team of students, if all the co-authors (copyright holders) agree. After a thesis is published on the HSE website, it obtains the status of an online publication.

Student theses are objects of copyright and their use is subject to limitations in accordance with the Russian Federation’s law on intellectual property.

In the event that a thesis is quoted or otherwise used, reference to the author’s name and the source of quotation is required.
