Improving the Activity of Social-Oriented Nonprofit Organizations in the Region

This Bachelor thesis examines the activity of social-oriented nonprofit organizations in St. Petersburg, particularly in the area of transparency. The aim of the paper is to identify the opportunities, methods, means and forms of greater transparency of NGOs in the region. Within the stated objective the following tasks were set: - to clarify the conceptual apparatus; - to determine functions of social-oriented nonprofit organizations in terms of regional development; - to learn the principles of transparency of nonprofit organizations; - to identify the level of accountability and transparency of NGOs, including foreign experience; - to analyze the current situation in St. Petersburg’s nonprofit sector, its support from the government; - to determine obstacles improving transparency in the region; - monitoring the websites of extracted organizations; - to develop practical recommendations on how improve transparency. The empirical part of the research is based on the method of web content analysis, which determines the presence or absence of pre-established characteristics, as well as the calculation of the rate of information accessibility of website. The work was carried out 70 websites of NGOs - recipients of government subventions. Thus, the following conclusions were made: the most famous organizations among the recipients of state support have maximum rates of information availability; there is a statistical relationship between the level of transparency and the degree of organization’s fame; most nonprofit organizations receiving grants are not sufficiently transparent. The main result of the work is the analysis of factors that prevent greater transparency of organizations, as well as the determination of keys for the leveling of these measures.
