Faculty: Faculty of Computer Science

Educational Programme: Software Engineering (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 8

Year of Graduation: 2016

Image segmentation is a substantial task in some contemporary medical procedures. Using computer-aided tools on MRI images, one can detect boundaries of an objects, such as on organ or a tumor, measure its volume and monitor its changes. In this project, the aim is to create such a tool, using curvature-control approach to prevent segmentation from exceeding object borders. Taking into account previous research on methods of curvature-based segmentation control, an attempt is made to apply the most reliable of those methods to real medical images and construct software that can be used resource-efficiently to perform image segmentation from the user-defined source area
