A Community on the Territory of a Historic Village Inside an Urban Environment: the Public Aspects of its Functioning (from the Example of Sokol)

The paper was written based on the results of a sociological study conducted in the village of Sokol (Moscow), which aim was to find the answer to the question: "How in the modern city, 10 km away from the Kremlin a historical village of rural type “Sokol” exists for over 90 years". The research due to the specifics of its object and the problem of the study was based on the grounded theory. The arguments were proved by the concept of social space, P. Bourdieu, understanding the specifics of life in a big city of G. Simmel and Robert Park, notions of the public sphere H. Arendt, V. Volkov, S. Salmenniemi, secondary analysis of local government studies in Russia B. Glazychev and S. Kordonsky. With the analysis of publications in the media, the visual analysis and a series of in-depth interviews with residents of the village a unique ethnographical material describing the conditions of Muscovites living in the village with low-rise buildings have been gathered, as well as the internal and external agents that threaten the existence of the village have been found, and also a mechanism that It uses the local community in order to preserve the integrity of the village has been described.
