Educational Programme: Information Systems and Technology (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 9

Year of Graduation: 2016

Volume of this graduation thesis is 62 pages of typewritten text, 4 pages of appendix. The work includes 13 pictures and 6 tables. The main methods of artificial intelligence are analyzed to present and operate the time factor, database theory (DB) and algebraic models. The aim of the thesis is to research and develop temporal database that is essential to design intelligent systems allowing the time factor to be taken into account and operated. Another aim is to use achieved results in the application. The paper covers basic characteristics of human perception of time as well as key time features that the theory of intelligent systems recognizes. Moreover, the basic approaches to the presentation of time, Interval (Allen) and point (McDermott) have been analyzed. The main emphasis is on the temporal information representation in databases, namely, temporal data model (TMD) and its possible modifications are studied. Temporal algebra is used as a key query language in the temporal database construction. We have worked out the concept and structure of the database for consulting sphere, based on TMD, developed by R. Snodgrass. Temporal add-in for relational database, that is based on the main principles of temporal algebra and transmits temporal queries in SQL queries was developed as a result by means of the MySQL database, and object-oriented programming language Java with Hibernate framework.
