Sociological approaches to study the phenomenon of loneliness

Our research focused on sociological approaches to study the phenomenon of loneliness. We have critically examined existing today in the social sciences the representations of loneliness. Based on current literature our research problem we done a historical analysis the phenomenon of loneliness studies. The analysis revealed a disadvantages of modern sociological loneliness studies. To solve the problem, first, we performed a social-philosophical reconstruction of loneliness as a social phenomenon. Secondly, on the basis of the reconstruction results we have performed the conceptualization of loneliness as a social phenomenon using sociological theory. The research helped us, firstly, to understand what are the historical features on public and scientific perception and study of loneliness. Secondly, the study helped us to detect the problem of theoretical definition of loneliness in sociology. This problem we tried to solve by social-philosophical reconstruction of loneliness as a social phenomenon and its conceptualization by the sociological theory of Emile Durkheim help. Thirdly, we obtained the results of the research model theoretical definition of loneliness as a social phenomenon relevant to the new empirical research.
