History
(Bachelor’s programme)
2016
This research project focuses on the identification and study of the characteristics of national policy of the Soviet Union towards the Jews in 1920 - 30 years in the context of the common methods of Soviet policy toward ethnic minorities in a given time period. The research is based on a comparison of two sources dedicated to the National Policy of the USSR: magazine "Tribune of Soviet Jewish community", which was published in Moscow in the period from 1927 to 1937 and was the press organ of OZET (Society of the Land Planning of Jewish Workers) and the magazine "Revolution and Nationalities", which was publishing in 1930 - 1937's, and was the press organ of the Council of Nationalities of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR and detection of discussions about features of Jewish question in the USSR. In these two sources were identified the main discussions that formed the discourse of national policy toward the Jews of the USSR in the specified time period. Magazine "Tribune of Soviet Jewish community" (hereinafter - the "Tribune") is taken as a source of materials on the Jewish question in connection with the fact that it was the only one official printed edition issued in Russian, most fully reveals the theme of the national policy of the Soviet Union in relation to the Jewish population. Editors of “Revolution and Nationalities” were aiming on the one hand to cover the practice of nation-building, and, on the other hand, theoretically, to develop questions related to this building. Thus, I want to show characteristics of the "Jewish case" in the national policy of the USSR and open main features of it.
