The Role of Gestures in Overcoming of Lexical Deficiency in Patients with Aphasia
2016
Present work is dedicated to the role of gestures in the speech of patients with aphasia. Since most of the studies allow the subjects to use both oral and gestural speech, there are questions, concerning the relative advantages of their interaction over exclusively oral speech. The study of this advantage is the main issue that needs to be studied on a wide scale. The aim of the work is to establish the existence or absence of the positive influence of gesticulation on aphasia treatment. The work is based on the multimodal corpus "Pear stories", the videos from which are annotated in the linguistic annotator «ELAN» with the following analysis carried out. By the end of the analysis it will be possible to make a conclusion, whether gestures facilitate word retrieval, prevent it or leave it unchanged, and in which cases it happens.
