Student: Borisova Olga

Supervisor: Dilyara Ibragimova

Educational Programme: Sociology (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2016

The general purpose of this study is to attempt to clarify the thematic profile of economically successful crowdfunding projects and to reveal the motivation to support these projects on Russian crowdfunding platforms Boomstarter.ru and Planeta.ru. The research problem lies in the lack of knowledge of motivation that induces the desire to sponsor projects and of project categories. The aim of the research will be achieved through using qualitative methods by conducting semi-structured interviews with sponsors of crowdfunding campaigns. The outcome of the study showed that the motivation of giving financial resources to the authors of crowdfunding projects is classified into two types: seeking for reward and supporting authors and causes. The results provided more information about the mechanism of crowdfunding and its influence on people involved in this business. The research may be used in further studies of this phenomenon.
