Nowadays there is a continuous concern for the tendency to sign marital contracts between spouses. With the development of market relations in Russia each spouse may own certain property, which he wishes to control himself, and for the regulation of this issue a legal mechanism (marital contract) is required. In Europe marital contracts became popular approximately 20 years ago, whereas in Russia the number of marital contracts started to increase several years ago. Many western studies analyze the role of marital contracts, and investigation of this aspect is highly important due to the fact that there is a contradiction between different aims and effects of marital contract, and therefore the meaning of marital contract for spouses should be investigated in order to understand how marital contract affects spouses' relationships. However, Russian literature lacks researches on the role of marital contract and its impact on the relationships between spouses, thereby in this research I will analyze existing Russian and foreign literature and researches and then develop the issue of understanding the role of marital contract between spouses. Eventually this research work will assist in extending research methodology and knowledge for further analysis of the role of marital contracts.
