Organizational Stories and Their Role in the Coaching Process

ABSTRACT The stories surround a human from the moment of his birth. Traditions, cultural values, knowledge are transferred from generation to generation by the stories. There are a lot of stories, keeping in organizations. Organization’s employees always create and swap stories. The stories about, what happened and what would happen further. The stories are full of characters, plot and drama. During the work with organizations, the concrete forms of data, which can be classified and counted, are more valuable, therefore until recently the stories kept out of spotlight. In the best cases, the stories played a role of indirect material to analyze data. However, in recent years, consultants and leaders pay more attention for the role and value of the stories, passed by the storytelling. The analysis on organizational stories can tell to investigator about the strategy of a company, relations of powers inside a company, success cognition, expectations and characteristic imaginations. The stock of stories shapes an individual organizational culture. The company is formed from people, therefore their life-stories, experience, and relationships shape the culture of the company (Gabriel, 2000). Organizations are created around leaders. Leaders in many respects define strategy and the actual purposes of the organization. Work with the leader’s stories in couching helps to understand his perception of the organization in better way, to see interrelations between personal history of the leader and the organizational culture which he builds. The work objective is to analyze the theoretic aspects of usage of the stories, working with organizations and their leaders, and to match personal leader’s story with the features of his company.
