Increasing the Efficiency of Returnable Package Flow Management in the Manufacturing Company

Abstract 1. Topic of bachelor’s thesis: “Increasing the Efficiency of Returnable Package Flow Management in the Manufacturing Company” 2. Key words: returnable package, pallet management system, euro-pallet, pooling company, pallet provider, “make or buy” solution The general purpose of the study is development of pallet management system and its engineering at the manufacturing company for increasing of pallet management process efficiency and reducing of costs connected with pallet circulating. The study includes an overview of the main tendencies in the sphere of pallet management and market analysis of logistics services which are the parts of pallet management system. Flow characters and process management participants for one of the largest manufacturer in the FMCG market are defined in the study. The range of problems connected with pallet circulating were identified in the course of the analysis, particularly, growth of expenditures for purchasing of pallet because of additional pallet demand in warehouses, the absence of systematic pallet return process, pallet planning and inventory management, accounting and control. On the ground of developed scheme, the solution was to return pallets from a few key accounts from the limited number of ship-to points and use the service of the pallet provider in pallet management. As a result, total costs connected with pallet circulating decreased significantly. The efficiency of proposed measures was demonstrated using the DuPont model.
