Improving the Logistics Process at the Warehouse of a Trading Company

Keywords: logistics process at the warehouse, technological process of cargo handling, interfunctional coordination, methods of order picking, addressable storage, process and handling equipment. In this work it is shown that efficient logistics process at the warehouse is a competitive advantage for trading companies. Warehousing problems affect the entire company's operations through the growth of logistics costs and the drop in the level of service provided to clients. The aim of this work is to provide recommendations for improving the effectiveness of logistics process in the warehouse of a trading company. The author considers typical problems in the implementation of this process, analyzing their causes, and develops a system of measures for improving the company’s performance. The work contains a practical chapter. By the example of a trading company "Orchid", specific problems in the functioning of the warehouse were identified, and the main issue is a long time process of order picking. There were also problems at other stages of the logistics process in the warehouse. Introduction of a targeted system of storage, warehouse management system, changes in the method of picking orders, and definition of key performance indicators of the warehouse were proposed as main improvement measures. The economic effect of the proposed solution is shown at the DuPont model. Length of bachelor’s thesis: pages – 194, pictures – 25, tables – 22, list of references – 49, appendix – 5 on 21 pages.
