Implementation of a WMS System While Optimizing the Receiving Process on the Warehouse of Pharmaceutical Distributor

At a present all companies operate under tough market conditions and one of a key tool for improving the effectiveness of the company engaged in wholesale trade is a strategy of logistics costs reducing. Against this background, a very important task for the distributor is to minimize the cost of material handling process within the warehouse and optimize the whole logistics process in order to gain competitive advantage and improve customer service. A particularly important part of the process is goods receiving, which is on the input of material flow. The purpose of this work is in analysis and the subsequent implementation of the goods receiving procedure at the central warehouse of a pharmaceutical distributor, aimed to improve the quality of work and re-engineering of the existing warehouse business processes. The author has been demonstrated the necessity of receiving process improving caused by the need to reduce the number of mistakes while receiving, elimination of duplicate functions between departments and error-free posting of goods in the company's ERP system. Futher, the decision to implement a warehouse management system and integrate it with the corporate information system have been taken. As a result of the introduction and launch of the system company expected to receive a significant reduction in errors in the receiving of the goods, the warehouse staff productivity gains and reducing the average time of acceptance. It is expected that the implementation of a warehouse management system will reduce the number of complaints from customers and increase their loyalty. Basic techniques developed in the study can be successfully applied in practice by companies from a wide range of industries, in particular, by wholesalers.
